Jams and Cakes: A Closer Look on Well Clogging Mechanisms in Microscale Produced Water ReInjection Experiments

چکیده
We present a new experimental approach to further understand the injectivity impairment due reinjection of produced water in an oilfield, containing residual oil and solids. A unique microfluidic setup with imposed flowrate is characterized by excellent reproducibility allows one determine kinetics external cake formation propagation damage inside porous medium, similar what happens at injection wellbore. The growth rates that internal exhibit discontinuities, likely related pressure buildup up threshold Laplace above which O/W Pickering droplets are pushed through, sets limit growth. Finally, reaches quasi-stationary thickness whose mechanisms discussed below. Direct visualization readily achieved experiments, coupled spatiotemporal image analysis, enables better spatial resolution than core flooding experiments shows occurs small region close entry medium. These developments lead derivation analytical model formation. It appears although very localized, this strongly decreases global permeability whole controlled temperature permit identify variation viscosity (or ratio), as primary mechanism influences clogging. Clogging slowed high temperatures, but final state particle clogging thus irreversible.

Particle Clogging in Radial Flow: Microscale Mechanisms
Fluid-flow-driven particle migration through porous networks reflects the interplay between various particle-level forces, the relative size between migrating particles and pore constrictions, and the spatial variability of the velocity field. Experimental evidence shows that particle migration in radial fluid flow results in selfstabilizing annular clogging patterns when the particle size appr...
متن کاملA closer look at supercritical water.
Water, the fluid of life at ambient pressure (P) and temperature (T), is mostly present under supercritical conditions in the Earth’s crust and mantle (1): that is, above the vaporliquid critical point (647 K and 221 MPa). As a free fluid or dissolved in silicate minerals, supercritical water greatly influences the structure and dynamics of our planet. From a technological standpoint, there are...
متن کاملA closer look at water-related geologic activity on Mars.
Water has supposedly marked the surface of Mars and produced characteristic landforms. To understand the history of water on Mars, we take a close look at key locations with the High-Resolution Imaging Science Experiment on board the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, reaching fine spatial scales of 25 to 32 centimeters per pixel. Boulders ranging up to approximately 2 meters in diameter are ubiquito...

In recent years, systems of care principles have been increasingly adopted because of their potential to support efforts to improve child welfare and other human service systems in ways that lead to increased safety, permanency, and well-being for children, adolescents, and their families. However, while the systems of care approach has become more widespread, a clear understanding of what defi...
